Z PLUMBERZ Franchise Review: Q&A with Brian Franks
Veteran turned entrepreneur opens up about why he chose to invest in the fast-growing plumbing franchise
Investing in and running a business takes a good deal of problem solving and adapting to adversity, but Brian Franks believed his long military career prepared him for the challenges ahead as he started a Z PLUMBERZ franchise. In this Z PLUMBERZ franchise review interview, Brian Franks talks about why he wanted to start a Z PLUMBERZ franchise, what customers value most, his hopes for the future, and how he battled a negative stereotype of plumbers.
Brian Franks, however, wasn’t alone, having the full training and marketing support of the BELFOR Franchise Group, as well as a strong network of other plumbers to advise. After starting up in August 2020, Franks said business has never been busier.
What made you want to run your own franchise?
My grandfather started a business in 1963 as a furniture company in Wayne, Michigan. My dad ended up getting the business from my grandfather so we’ve always had business owners in our family. But as far as owning one, I knew I would eventually get there. I just didn’t know what aspect or what business I would own – and I’m lucky to be in this type of trade industry right now.
What do you love most about running a Z PLUMBERZ franchise?
The one thing that I love most is, after I’m done with a job, I see my customers smile when they see that I’ve done a good job and I’ve done everything that they’ve asked me to do, and then, I get that self gratification from a good job done. That’s a reward alone. Absolutely.
And what do you think your customers value most?
Just solving their problems. Ultimately, we want to get the job done, but we’re never in a hurry. We’re never in a rush. We always explain things the best we can to them so they understand that they’re going to get exactly what they want.
What do you think sets the Z PLUMBERZ franchise apart from the rest of the competition?
I think their line of communication between the franchise group, the franchisees, and the employees as well are what set them apart. There’s always a constant chain of communication.
Did you have any preconceived notions about plumbing before entering the trade?
At that point in my life, I didn’t want to be a plumber. I thought plumbers were dirty. Well, I totally changed my mind and I have not looked back ever since. I enjoy my job beyond anything I’ve ever done in my life. This is one great career to have.
How did you work against those negative stereotypes?
We’re presentable. We tuck our shirts in. Our vans are clean. Things like that make me drawn towards this company more than any other company around. If you look at our vans versus some other company’s vans, they’re not as clean and as tidy, and it makes a good impression on a customer, especially when you pull up to a resident’s house and you have a clean truck and you’re well groomed and presented in a positive manner.
You started in August 2020. What are your hopes going forward?
I just hope that my business and the trade industry keeps on growing the way it is. I haven’t looked back since I started in August and I have been fully swamped since I started this company. There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t have multiple jobs, and that’s the truth. I am busier than busy.
